“Nomadic Design” is the first expository project to be entirely curated and produced by BASE Milano, with guidance and input from Stefano Mirti, and put together from the contributions to come out of an international call for entries directed at designers, businesses and universities.

“Nomadic Design” was presented during the last edition of the Salone del Mobile at Milano Design Week. It shines a spotlight on flexible hybrid spaces able to switch between the private, the recreational and the professional, simultaneously serving as home, office, workshop, lounge and home-cinema. Nomadic objects, blends of analogue and digital, interconnected, agile, always portable and tailored to our nomadic existence.

Among the installations featured we find: “Forms of Turmoil”, curated by raumlabor; the exhibition “Manifattura 4.0. The challenge for the future of the Italian companies”, organised by CNA-Confederazione Nazionale dell’Artigianato; Moleskine’s project dedicated to the relationship between two quintessentially nomadic items, the backpack and the notebook; and Samsung’s immersive, interactive installation commissioned to the Zaha Hadid Architects studio and the acclaimed art and digital design collective Universal Everything.

The many projects featured in an exhibition space that covers over 5,000 m2 include the “Nomadic Design” exhibition on the first floor, which came about thanks to an international call for entries. Curated by the BASE team and guided by Stefano Mirti, it brings together 21 designers from Italy and all over the world. Among the highlights of Fuorisalone at BASE there is also the “Forms of turmoil” installation, curated by raumlabor, a lab for the design, experimentation and production of inflatable structures which serve as a reflection on forms of demonstration and protest; the exhibition “Manifattura 4.0.
