OFFICE RECONSTRUCTION / A HIDDEN GARDEN BEHIND THE REINFORCED CONCRETE WALLS

This project is to reconstruct an office in a high-rise building, the original space is in inadequate streamlined layout with multiple irregular shapes and dead space, and the overall utilization rate is low. The client wants the designers transform his office into a place where his staff can take a breath of nature behind the reinforced concrete walls. To this end, the designers abandoned the idea of traditional cubicles, and instead, they lined desks and bookshelves in curved shape alongside the walls and ceiling and moved the “forest” into the office, making it an open space with natural vitality.

IMMOBILIÈRE 3F / RESIDENCE OF 68 SOCIAL HOUSING UNITS AND 20 APARTMENTS FOR MEDICALLY ASSISTED PEOPLE

The projects appears as a singular and unique object, emanating a sense of renewal that is perceived immediately upon entering the neighbourhood. Its expression is traduced with the use of two materials with complementary yet opposite qualities: – Brick—for its domestic thickness and for its solid reference to the ground and to the facades of the neighbouring Briques Rouges – Lacquered, expanded metal—for a material lightness that discretely reveals the comforts of the apartments and the usage of the balconies, without completely exposing them to views from the street.

DOUBLE DUPLEX / BATAY-CSORBA ARCHITECTS

The Double Duplex was created in response to the cities growing need for alternative housing models due to the rising cost of urban real estate and the need for urban densification within Toronto’s established residential neighbourhoods. A proliferation of high and mid-rise condo’s have densified the urban core and serve as the predominant model for entry level home ownership within the city. However, very few new low rise infill models of densification or affordable living within Toronto’s sought after historic residential neighbourhoods have been developed.
