“Modern Times” is the theme for the AJMONE Fall-Winter 2017/2018 collection of leather jackets and accessories. Drawing inspiration from a blend of the industrial era and silent film, it asks the question: what would Charlie Chaplin have looked like in a leather jacket? “We were inspired by the Little Tramp character in the film MODERN TIMES and we pictured him wearing one of our creations,” reveal Roberto and Stefano. The figure pushes well beyond the bounds of reality and becomes an aesthetic icon of timeless elegance, just like leather jackets themselves. In his role in the film that he also directed, Chaplin might be seen as a regular young man with a seasoned sense of his own style and ironic spirit. The final product is a torn yet virtuous and relaxed figure displaying a range of details and features that epitomize his cool, unfailingly laid black allure.
A meticulous quest for unique, authentic naturalness predominates in the selection of materials, all of which are vegetable tanned. They range from Nappa and horse culatta to washed calf: a key material that is found in many of the items in the collection. Light lamb Nappa and waxed calf suede underline the nonchalant feel of the different looks, as well as the interior and exterior shearling details.
The colour palette is inspired by an imaginary early 20th century industrial scene and it ranges from pure black and shades of charcoal to chocolate and tobacco. Dashes of red and rust brighten up the black and grey tones that naturally pervade the collection.
