Light The People is a photography project devised by Cini&Nils to investigate and reveal the bonds that people develop with their Cuboluce products. No ordinary lamp, the Cuboluce is a veritable masterpiece designed in 1972 by Franco Bettonica and Mario Melocchi that has since become an icon in its field. The individuals who took part in this project come from all the different sectors of the creative disciplines: each in his or her own way, their black and white shots give us an insight into their relationships with this timeless lamp, which encapsulates quality, technique and innovation.
Cini&Nils entrusted the photographer Federico Villa with the task of capturing for posterity these spontaneous, sometimes intimate, sometimes playful and sometimes theatrical relationships with this little object.
Cuboluce is a lamp that was designed not only with those of us who like to read in bed in mind. You open it to switch it on and close it to switch it off: you don’t have to fumble for a switch. A reflector lid directs and localises the light beam. Cuboluce features in the Study Collection at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. In 2013, Cuboluce was joined by Cuboled, which uses the LED technology to optimise the luminous efficiency of this little masterpiece of lighting design.
